Firstly, your product seems quite comprehensive, but before I do a trial / buy I need to know if VV can do the following in real time:

- monitor folders and or select individual files within folders

- save a copy once a new version of a file has been changed (seems like yes)

- keep different versions at the file level

- only copy that file not the whole folder

- control how many versions are kept, to limit storage, e.g. by # and or age

- ignore certain types e.g. temp, ~ files for Office files

- does the VV Engine come with VV ? is it needed for real time? – My scheduling is fairly basic, - a weekly job for each drive.

FYI, I was using the old WD SmartWare for years (it’s real time with versions was the main reason) but it will no longer work on my new PC.

I am finding other real time / non stop, continuous offerings cannot do keep versions with controls.

I use real time for my images and documents, a lot of files, but only a handful are changed each day.

Typically I would need no more than 3 versions.

My other backup needs are fairly standard..

I have now purchased VV plus VV Engine. Working very nicely. FYI, I had been using Western Digital's SmartWare for many years, which performed real time backup with version control (plus standard backup types with scheduling).

The real time capabilities were the only reason I stayed with it, (WD stopped support back in 2018, but it still worked on their drives I had!).

It had some issues with real time version max #s not behaving, and could not exclude files with masks etc, nothing like the capabilities of VV.

Unfortunately, WD SmartWare will no longer work with their current
PassPort drives so I had to give it up.

This is why I am so glad I have found VV, and I note:

* A number of other apps claim to do real time ( Acronis for instance) but none have the combo of version # control, or indeed versions !
* Most so called real time offerings are just instant overwrite of the
existing backup, some restrict even this to only one set/profile ?
* VVs granular control over the process is far more extensive than
anything else I could find, not always needed but very useful,
especially to avoid unnecessary backup of certain files, empty
folders etc
* VV Engine is also impressive, very light on overhead.
* No proprietary format - tick ! Enables easy cleanup of backups no longer needed.

A bit more of a learning curve , but worth it.
