Hello,

I am testing ViceVersa Pro version 2(evaluation copy) and have set up a profile to Backup (mirror Source and target) and the target and source are set as follows:

Source: \\sawgrass\Certresource
Target: \\cncpocs\Certresource

I tested to ensure that the source was being copied to the target and it works great. I saved the profile as certresource.fsf

I then setup VVLauncher to automate the process and to run every 10 minutes if file changes are detected. I have been monitoring it over the past week and VVlauncher does not seem to detect changes in the source. But when I do a Compare and see that the source has changed and then execute a Run Now! the files are copied from the target to the source.

Have I done something wrong in the VVlauncher setup?

The comparison is set to: Size and Timestamp and I have configued it to copy even if the timestamp has changed after initial comparison. I have also checked the synchronize/backup/replicate files even if in conflict.

We will be purchasing this product if we can be sure the VVlauncher is going to take care automating the replication.

Please advise!

Thanks,

Bill C.

Hi, did you setup VVLauncher to detect changes in Source or Target or both? Depending on what kind of drives/OS are behind \\sawgrass\Certresource and \\cncpocs\Certresource it looks like VVlauncher is not receiving notifications from the network that files have changed.... what type of network is it? thanks

Both systems are Windows 2000 Server with SCSI drives. Originally I configured VVLauncher to detect changes in source only. Since then, I have reconfigured to detect changes in source and target. Right now, I have it configured to run every 15 minutes (not checking for changes) but according to the Last Run, it has not executed since 7/21/06 at 4:08PM. With it configured to run every 15 minutes without checking target or source, shouldn't Last Run update every 15 minutes?

Finally, when I run Show Comparison from VVLauncher, it has been reporting correctly if the source and target are identical or if they are different, so it appears to be detecting correctly.

I really need to be able to set this up and feel confident that any changes will be replicated without manual intervention.

Thanks in advance for the support,

Bill C

Hi, you can use the ViceVersa log (you can setup the log file in the profile settings) for more info on execution results. Strange about last runs, maybe a temporary glitch, can you try shutdown and restart VVLauncher? Last but not least we will soon (2-3 weeks?) release a new VVLauncher called VVEngine, with improved features, including support for multiple profiles.

Sutting down and restarting VVlauncher fixed the problem (why didn't I think of this myself?). Thanks! By the way, will the VVengine be available for download to registered product users?

Another question for you: It seems that VVlauncher only runs when someone is logged into the system, If I configure it as a service, will this correct the problem?

Thanks,

Bill

Yes, you can install it as a service to let it run also when no one is logged on, but you will need to setup the service to run under a user account which has access to network resources.
