Is it possible and /or safe to use the "Try to copy files that are in use by other applications" to copy Outlook pst files?

ViceVersa PRO can copy open PST files using the Volume Shadow Service. See http://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item40.htm

Why does the copy stop and wait for a button click to continue with errors? Can't this be set to continue running so it does not require hands-on actions?

Set the option "No confirmations...." in the project settings.

It it possible to use this flag, but it will not help. VV cannot copy outlook files when in use. Outlook needs to be closed first.

I think this would be possible if the application used the Volume Shadow Copy Service, which is built into XP and Server 2003. I know some competing programs use it and they seem to be able to copy PSTs while Outlook is open.

Any chance ViceVersa will support Volume Shadow Copy?

Thanks,
Bryan

Cool! Probably too soon to ask, but will it be included in Pro?

Thanks,

I would love to see this in your product as it will truly solidify your place in the enterprise. I just downloaded the pro version....used it for 5 minutes and was so impressed I purchased outright.

Great product folks!!!

I do not want to buy two different sync applications...

one of the BIGGEST problems in computing is sync of the Outlook PST files between laptop and desktop.

NOT an overwrite of the oldest PST file BUT a complete sync of messages, elimation of dups .. so both computers contain the exact same emails

Thus please tell us when Vice versa Pro will able to properly sync PST files, rather than overwritting one with another ?

This is a very big problem ...to sync PST files between laptop & desktop

I would like to clarify ViceVersa and PST files.

ViceVersa is a file synchronizer.

File synchronizers synchronize files using their timestamps by replacing older files with new files, delete files as required (if they have been deleted from the other side) etc. If a file is changed in both source and target since last sync, then it is marked as a conflict and it needs to be reconciled manually.

File synchronizers do not synchronize "records within files". For example, for Outlook, ViceVersa will not synchronize e-mails or contacts, but will keep the newer PST file by copying it over the old PST file. If the PST is changed in both locations ViceVersa will mark the files as "in conflict" and will not copy the files. ViceVersa will synchronize PST outlook files as it would synchronize any other files, by keeping the newer file.

There is a 'backup tool' available from Microsoft for PST-files. It can be set to daily (to a different location) and then your able to 'backup' with VV to copy it!

ViceVersa can backup open PST files on source PC without shutting down Outlook. VV will make use of the Volume the Shadow Service.
