Hi

Is it possible for vice versa to continually checking if there are new files in the source directory and copy to the specified destination folder, ie run 24/7

Thanks

Chris

Yes — ViceVersa can run continuously and copy new/changed files 24/7. You have three main options depending on how real-time and robust you need it to be:

1) VVEngine (recommended for true continuous real‑time)
- VVEngine can monitor folders and run profiles automatically when changes are detected so changes are replicated without rescanning the whole tree. It supports real‑time backup, replication and synchronization and can run as a service.

https://www.tgrmn.com/web/vvengine/vvengine.htm

- Setup (summary):
1. Create and save a ViceVersa profile (.fsf) with your source(s) and target(s) and choose Backup/Replication/Synchronization.
2. In VVEngine add that profile and enable “Monitor Source and Run When File Changes Are Detected” (and “Monitor Target…” if synchronizing both ways).
3. Choose Monitoring Level: Subfolder Level or File Level (File Level is more granular but can cause more overflows).
4. Enable and run the profile in VVEngine.
- Notes/limits:
- Real‑time (without full rescans) requires VVEngine and certain monitoring levels are edition‑dependent (Subfolder/File level monitoring is available in Client/Enterprise editions; Server Premium supports real‑time execution in other configurations — check your VVEngine edition).
- Folders over VPN generally cannot be monitored (they can still be targets).
- If too many changes happen quickly VVEngine may report an overflow and do a full recomparison; you can configure full‑recomparison conditions and schedule runs to avoid drift.
- VVEngine can run profiles as a service and send notifications, track changes, and keep a change database so only changes are applied next run.

2) VVLauncher
- Included with ViceVersa PRO; can run a profile automatically when file changes are detected and can be configured to run as a Windows service. It’s simpler than VVEngine but less feature rich for managing many profiles.

3) VVScheduler or Windows Task Scheduler (periodic polling)
- VVScheduler uses Windows Task Scheduler to run profiles at intervals (every X minutes/hours/days). This is not instant real‑time, but can be used to run continuously by choosing a short interval.

Other useful options for 24/7 operation
- Run as a Windows service (VVEngine or VVLauncher can in some configurations).
- Configure retries on error, real‑time delay (wait for disk inactivity before copying), file filters, archiving, and options for files in use.
- Use tracking DB or “copy once only” / archive‑bit options if you need special behavior when target files are removed by downstream processing.
