Hi All
Just joined this forum and a new user to Vice Versa
Is it possible for vice versa to find all occurances of the same file in a folder.
Eg. if I have file1.doc in a folder on a drive and sometime in the past i have copied this to another folder but on the same drive
What I am trying to do is remove duplicates on my drive to make more space
Tried the help system but could not find anything
Many thanks in anticipation for your help |

Hi, you can create a snapshot (with CRC) from within ViceVersa
1. In ViceVersa open the Comparison window for your folder: set Source to your folder and set Target to <blank> to avoid a full compare. Click Compare.
2. From the Comparison window menu choose Lists -> Save -> Save Source to a File...
3. Choose snapshot type (ViceVersa Snapshot .vsn, SFV, CSV, TXT, or .sha). When prompted, enable the option to save CRC values.
- SFV always includes CRC. .vsn/.csv/.txt can include CRC if you select that option. .sha includes SHA values.
Which export format to use
- SFV: text file with CRCs (standard for CRC lists). Good for verification and widely compatible.
- CSV or TXT: can include CRC column if you choose to save CRCs — easy to open in Excel.
- VSN: ViceVersa binary snapshot (recommended for use back inside ViceVersa).
- SHA (.sha): contains SHA-256 values (and file info) if you want SHA instead.
Then you can open that file in Excel for instance and find files that have the same CRC / name (= duplicates). _________________ --
