Hi, the "open with" option for a file is managed by Windows.

True, but VVP already has "open" option (for a file) which is managed by Windows. I thought "open with" option gives us a new way to open a second app. Considered for filetype *.png which is manager by Windows MSPaint.exe. If we could assign a second app like XnView.exe or IrfanView.exe, that will be nice.

I also found that .png can go to MSPaint.exe via the "open" option, but failed via the "open with" option.

The Windows "Open with..." list is managed by Windows, not by ViceVersa. Ways to add, change or remove items:

To add a program to the list
- Right‑click the file, choose Open with -> Choose another app.
- If the program is not listed: Browse to it with "More apps" -> "Look for another app on this PC" and select it.

To make a program the default for that file type
- Right‑click the file -> Open with -> Choose another app -> select the program and check "Always use this app to open .ext files".
- Or Settings -> Apps -> Default apps -> Choose default by file type and pick the program for the extension.

To remove unwanted entries from the Open with list (Windows GUI options are limited)
- Use Settings -> Apps -> Default apps to change the default association.
- To remove stray entries shown in the Open with list you can edit the registry (advanced users):
- Open regedit and back up the registry first.
- Check these keys and remove the unwanted entries under the relevant file extension (.ext):
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\<.ext>\OpenWithList
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\<.ext>\OpenWithProgids
- You may also need to remove or edit entries under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\<progid>\shell\ or context menu handlers if a program added a custom handler.
- After changes you may need to sign out/sign in or restart Explorer for the list to update.

If you only want to clear incorrect default associations for a file type
- Delete the UserChoice subkey for that extension:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\<.ext>\UserChoice
(only if you know what you are doing; back up registry first).

If you prefer a safer GUI approach
- Use Settings -> Apps -> Default apps -> Choose defaults by file type, or use Control Panel -> Default Programs.

Note: Always back up the registry before editing it.
