I am trying out, and learning, VV.

I have constructed a profile

- Source: "K:\Scans\"
- Target: "H:\11_R675_\"
- Include Subfolders: Yes
- Include files: "*_iii_*"
- Include files: "*_v_*"
Comparison
- Comparison Type: Size and Timestamp
Execution
- Method: Replication (Update Target)
- No archive for deleted/replaced source files

1. But I want to copy files from subfolders of \scans\ to put each file into the target folder.

So I want to include sub-folders in the source search, which it does, and exclude (creating) sub-folders in the target.
This does not seem to be an option in Subfolder Filters.
What am I missing?

2. I want to copy from only a 65 subset of the Source 1342 sub-folders. The required ones are largely contiguous, so I highlighted these in the source window. However, Preview shows that 733 sub-folders and 378 files will be added to the target. All the sub-folders 1 step down from \scans\ have been selected.
Can I select the required sub-folders using the Windows GUI, or does it have to be done using the profile generator? I cannot see a select tool in the top menu.

Hi, thank you for posting on the forum.

1. ViceVersa always replicates the folder structure so the files will be copied with their folders. For a future release we would like to add an option to have a "flat target folder" so that subfolders are "removed" in the target.

2. selection can be done with the "Find" function in the comparison window, however still the files would be copied in their subfolders.

regards

Thank you

1. This was one of the main reasons to try VV, since it is tedious to do it by hand. I am copying relevant files from an extensive multi-layered database to a flat input folder for a website.

2. Find presumably requires that the relevant folders can be defined by a common text pattern. In general, mine don't. I cherry pick them graphically (like BRU).

3. VV is really good at being able to find and list in context the relevant files, but I shall then have to use a different tool, presumably Windows Explorer, to copy them.
