My Windows Server 2022 Standard 21H2 was rebuilt over Christmas and I've been noticing VV6 copies to it not being as fast as I would expect, since I did the rebuild....

So I set a Defender AV exclusion for the Destination path on that Server via PS :

Quote:
Set-MpPreference -ExclusionPath "C:\- Serv\Utils"

-----

Copy speed before the Exclusion was set :

-- Done: 45,974 (23.02GB) Err: 0 (0) Skipped: 0 (0) Tot: 45,974 (23.02GB)
-- Average Transfer Rate: 33.45MB/Sec -- Elapsed Time: 11 min 44 sec

Copy speed after the Exclusion was set :

-- Done: 45,983 (23.02GB) Err: 0 (0) Skipped: 0 (0) Tot: 45,983
-- Average Transfer Rate: 63.10MB/Sec -- Elapsed Time: 6 min 13 sec

-----

I accept there's a 'small' risk in setting an AV Exclusion and I may revert, but wanted to share my experience with you nonetheless.

Hi Alice,

thank you for posting this! I can confirm that "real-time" anti-virus programs will check and scan files as they are copied to/from the system hence they generally do slow down the operation as a result.
