That's great and it definitely works properly using the timestamp function over the network using NTFS.

I am only double checking as I am recommending this setup to a customer. He wants to backup his working files over the internet to the maxtor, a VPN is already inplace over a 512/512 DSL connection and obviously we only want to copy over the changes to his files.

I have your software running at another site really well but that was from windows server to windows server not a NAS thing. So can you please just clarify for me.

Great software.

Hi - it will work fine if the Maxtor Shared Storage has the latest firmware applied Smile Check the Maxtor support site to check the latest firmware available.

Is anyone else still having problems with a Maxtor NAS? I recently bought the 500GB Shared Storage Plus and it seems like the timestamp is being modified when it shouldn't be.

I have the NAS setup as the source with one desktop and two laptops as targets. The problem happens even if only the desktop is turned on.

I'm running VVlauncher and in the beginning it will sync up. Then I might be surfing the web with Firefox and I have my bookmarks set to sync. After a little while I'll notice that VVlauncher is reporting a conflict even though the desktop is the only computer modifying the file.

I have firmware 2.4.2. ViceVersa is set ignore timestamp changes that happen after initial comparison and to ignore up to 60 second difference between files, but neither of these settings helped.

Prior to getting the NAS I used my desktop as the source and ViceVersa worked fine without the two settings I just mentioned.

Hopefully someone else has figured this out, otherwise I will have to contact Maxtor. Thanks.

Hi -
Is the timestamp for the bookmark on the Maxtor changing?
Did you try to verify that manually, writing down the timestamps of a bookmark in source and target before a conflict?

Apparently it is changing. This morning I booted my computer and VVlauncher showed everything was synced. Then a couple minutes after loading Outlook is showed my whitelist.xml file from a plugin was out of sync. This file is modified by Outlook everytime I load Outlook.

The timestamp on the Maxtor NAS is 8:52am while the timestamp on the desktop is now 8:54am. Only the desktop version has really changed. I'm not exactly sure of the time I turned on the computer so I'll pay more attention to that next time.

When I force the copy by choosing the target and copying to the source the copy happens, but the timestamp sometimes changes to 2/1/1982 and it still shows the files are in conflict. If I load ViceVersa again it now shows the files are synced.

I guess I forgot to mention I was using ViceVersa Pro 1, but the upgrade suggestion worked. Thanks.

Has anyone had issues with iTunes libraries? My timestamps are identical between the source (XP) and target (FreeNAS), and the file sizes are identical as well, but VV shows some files (not all) as needing synching.

Furthermore, VV is showing some directories as not having been copied to the NAS, but when I look at the file structure on the NAS, everything is there (and I can play the music).

What is going on?

Am interested in bidirectional synchronizing an SMB share formatted as EXT3 with another SMB share using NTFS.

I read some comments in this thread that indicated that this configuration might not work as expected.

Please clarify SMB / EXT3 linux support. If it matters, I'm running a 2.6 kernel with 3.x smbd

Vice Versa seems to have a bug that is making it give this Timestamp error. This should not be blamed on the disk. The files on the disk have dates (created, changed and accessed) that are this week, in 2012. And yet, Vice Versa fails, and claims they have a 1970 timestamp. Even if the disk were showing a 1970 timestamp, why can't Vice Versa just ignore it and copy the file anyway? This is frustrating.

I have a 6TB RAID1 WD LiveDuo NAS that I am using as a storage device and using VV to backup a copy to another 1TB drive via the USB port on the NAS and also to a folder on my C drive. The issue I am having is after I run it then run a comparison, it selects most of the files as needing to be updated because the timestamp is 1 second different. Anyway to ignore this?
Thanks in advance.

It's most likely the NTFS vs. FAT32 incompatibility.
In ViceVersa PRO profile settings -> comparison , switch on Ignore up to 2 seconds difference between files, see ViceVersa help for more info on this option. thanks
