What we are looking to do is copy the contents of several directories from Server A to Server B regardless if the file date/time stamps have change since the last backup, however, currently when I execute the profile now the date/time stamps are not being ignored despite having selected “Ignore Timestamp” (and “Ignore Size”) from the Comparison menu in the profile settings. What has been incorrectly set?

Ultimately the profile will run three days a week and archive/compress the “old” contents of Server B to, ideally, an archive of the parent fold rather then one for every file (i.e. \\Server_B\BackUp\Server_A\Archive\Server_A_2006-02-22.gz). Is there a way to do this? Also some how the archive path appends a "\archive" to the path (i.e. \\Server_B\BackUp\Server_A\Archive\Archive) each time it runs.

Kind regards,
Ryan

I will check this.

No, this is not possible (to have all files archived in a single compressed file)

Can you post your profile settings (file .fsf is a text file you can open it with Notepad)

I can see you have specified
\\ServerA\Test\RHWS 4\Archive\
as archive folder which is a subfolder of the target
\\ServerA\Test\RHWS 4\

With the backup method, files in the target (archive folder included) which are not in the source are deleted. So archive files are currently deleted and moved to \\ServerA\Test\RHWS 4\Archive\Archive\

The best is to start again and change the target to \\ServerA\Test\RHWS 4\Mirror\ and leave the archive folder as \\ServerA\Test\RHWS 4\Archive\

Great thank you! Alas, I am still having an issue mirroring files who's date/time stamp have not changed -- despite having set the ignore timestamp (and size) flags to true.

I would like to copy all the files on Server A to Server B regardless of whether or not the appear to have changed.

I was wondering if you were able to identify the issue I am having regarding ignoring time/date stamps?

This is the only issue holding me back from placing an order.

Regards,
Ryan

To copy all the files on Server A to Server B regardless of whether or not the appear to have changed, you will need to remove the files from B.

Would archiving (and compressing) all files, as part of the profile, accomplish this?

No, to copy all files again, regardless timestamp or size, you really need to delete them from the server B. I guess you only want to this once?

The ignore timestamp and ignore size flags, work in the opposite way, they match files even if timestamps or size are different (matching = do not copy them again).

No, actually I was hoping to run this three times a week. What would you recommend?

How comes you want to re-copy all files to target even if their timestamp/size match? It will take a long time each time to do this.

I am backing up VM drives, which do not have their time stamps altered (until the VM is stopped/started). As the process only happens three times a week I am not to worried about how long it takes for the process to complete and if archiving the files will keep the last three version only I don't have to worry too much about space consumption.

So, what could be done to accomplish this with VV?

Ryan,

I'm not sure I totally understand why you have your archiving requirement, but couldn't an archive (whether it be .rar, .jar, .zip, etc.) or a deletion of the Server B target folder (such as TGRMN Software response suggests) be easily accomplished by writing a simple batch file? You could then use Profile Settings > Advanced Settings > Custom Scripts - Run custom scripts before comparison to setup your environment they way it needs to be before running your backup.

Maybe I'm way off base but it seems like an easy solution.
