I downloaded the 30 day demo of ViceVersa Pro 2 for evaluation this morning. I would like to use ViceVersa as a means to synchronize our laptop user’s data files (My Documents, Outlook .pst, etc…) with a network share. During my testing I designated a source folder on my local hard drive that contains several outlook .pst files and set the target to a shared network folder. I’m using Windows XP Pro SP2, the local drive is NTFS, the Volume Shadow Service is running and I am a member of the local Administrators group. When I select compare & execute I receive the following error message:

Can not open “C:\Data\Mail\SyncTest.pst”. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Can you provide me with any assistance for this problem?
Thanks.

In the ViceVersa profile settings, advanced settings section, you will need to activate VSS for the source folder.
This will instruct ViceVersa to use the Volume Shadow Service.

In the profile settings you can activate VSS for either source, target or both. You are correct, VSS does not work for network folders. But in your case aren't the PST files on your local hard drive?

I'm having the same problem reported here, and have the exact same need.

When I first tried it, I was getting "file in use" errors when attempting to backup an open .PST file. After finding the profile setting to turn on Volume Shadow Copy for the source, it get the following error when I try to execute a backup:

"Volume Shadow Copy creation failed for C:. The system cannot find the path specified.. Click 'Continue' if you want to proceed without Volume Shadow Copy."

I've made sure that the Volume Shadow Copy service is turned on, rebooted, etc.

This software is so close to my exact need, and if this can be resolved, I will likely be purchasing 10-20 copies. Please help me asap.

Thanks

Hello - can you please post the log file (you can setup a log file in the profile settings). Please start with an empty file and post the complete log file. Thank you.

Reading threads, I panicked on this line:

"VSS does not work for network folders"

I have VV pro2 installed on a computer [windows server 2003] and set the VSS enable to copy folders from "that same machine" to another machines' hard drive.

This works, right?

VSS does not work if activated on a network folder. An error message will be reported. You probably have VSS activated for the local windows server 2003 and are copying to a remote folder which is fine. thanks
