Pre sales question - comparing folders with different names

I have only just started to experiment with the trial version of ViceVersa Pro. Comparing the contents of two similar folders (and subfolders) on different hard disks seems straightforward, assuming that the folder names are identical.

However, I would also sometimes like to compare the contents of two folders with different names. The normal comparison does not work, as it does not consider the same file in each folder as being a match. Is there any way to achieve what I want to do?

Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well. Let me try again.

I have several temporary folders each containing digital images from a couple of 1GB CF cards. Every time a CF card filled up, I moved the contents to my hard disk. Later, I copied these images to another set of folders organised by date. This was all done in a piecemeal fashion and I now want to check that none of the original images were missed before deleting the temporary CF folders.

Consider this folder structure.

MY PICTURES
- Aug subfolder (containing Image#1 & Image#2)
- Sep subfolder (containing Image#3 & Image#4)
- Oct subfolder (containing Image#5 & Image#6)

CF CARD TRANSFERS
- TransferA subfolder (containing Image#1, Image#2 & Image#3)
- TransferB subfolder (containing Image#4, Image#5 & Image#6)

Ideally, I would like to be able to simply compare MY PICTURES with CF CARD TRANSFERS to ensure that both folder structures contain the same files, whatever subfolder they may be in. Is there a way to achieve this?

Thanks. No, VV cannot do that type of comparison. It is basically a "folder-less" comparison Smile

I think for that you could look for a duplicate file finder program. This is a very good new feature idea for one of the ViceVersa future versions. Wink
