Hi!

I'm trying out ViceVersa Pro Build 2.0.0.8 (30 day trial) under Windows 2000 SP4 (German). So far, everything is working great, and I'm very impressed with the software.

However, I'm having one problem that I haven't been able to solve.

Assuming a directory "C:\Temp" is being backed up to "D:\Test", the old files are archived to a directory D:\Archive, and the directory structure of the backed up file is to be preserved, the destination directory and file created are something like "D:\Archive\D\Test\file_...". The problem I'm having is that the subdirectory "D" under "D:\Archive" is automatically hidden, and I can't seem to deactivate the hidden attribute (it's ghosted out). Even with administrator rights, this doesn't work. Nothing is visible in the archive directory until I enable the viewing of hidden files in Windows Explorer. The Archive Viewer that is part of ViceVersa doesn't show any content either, although there are files in the archive directory. How do I prevent the subdirectory "D" (in this example) from being created with the "hidden" attribute set?

One other question: Is there a German language version of VV?

Hi I am thinking that this hidden flag is not caused by ViceVersa, because it is grayed out and it is not possible to change it....

Sorry but at the moment there is no German version of ViceVersa Smile

OK, thanks for the quick response.

The reason I couldn't change the "hidden" attribute was that the subdirectory was marked as a "System" file. I was able to change this with the ATTRIB command. I have no idea how or why both the "system" and "hidden" attributes got set, but the subdirectory was automatically created by VV, and did not exist beforehand [shrug].

Still, VV does what we need, and the price is right. Smile

We need to look into this and see why/if ViceVersa is creating these subfolders with hidden and system attributes.

Any word on this issue? I am also seeing Hidden archive folders. Kind of a bummer, as it makes it hard to recover files from a user's desktop. Crossed fingers for a resolution.

Yes. In my case I have two, and both are hidden. FWIW, I am running the VV process as administrator on the server, and pushing the files to a different machine where I am logged on as backup user. Perhaps that sheds some light?

Best,

OK, think we found the cause of this issue. Twisted Evil
Are you using the flag "Append Source / Target Path to archive folder(s)" in your profile ? If yes, check the first base directory in the archive folder, normally that is a drive letter such as "C" or "D" or "X" etc. ViceVersa makes that a hidden and system folder. That is causing the issue. Windows Explorer basic configuration does not show hidden / system file/folders unless instructed to.
We are fixing this in the new VV build.
