The EZLan.net site ignores the currently most-popular method of computer-to-computer connection, that of a desktop PC to a laptop via a wireless router. The desktop PC is usually connected to the router via CAT5 cable. The wireless laptop is connected to the PC via its wireless network connection. The wireless network has also become the network of choice for multi-PC households and many small businesses.

There is a separate section of http://www.ezlan.net which describes wireless networks.

I followed your advice to use ezlan, and after hours on their site I know a lot more about networking in general, but still nothing on how to synchronize my desktop and laptop using your software. I am over a week into the trial. Could you be of more assistance?

We have now released version 2.0 of ViceVersa PRO: my answer will be based on that version.
Once you have established a connection between the two computers where one computer can 'see' the other computer's drive, install ViceVersa on one of the two computers (or on both). Run ViceVersa. As source select the folder where the data you want to sync is stored on one of the two computers and as target select the folder where the data is stored on the other computer. Click 'compare'. VV will show you the difference between the two folders. Then select 'synchronization' as execution method and click 'execute'.
This is just the basic use, you will also be able to schedule this or run in one step.
