|
|
Hiya.
Any chance we'll see an option / script that will send an email containing part of the log, instead of just "There were file copy / delete errors".?
I would like to be able to send the email directly to the end users, and thus keep them out of the web-interface (Using VVengine). Hence the need for the list of troublesome files in the email.
Thanks in advance, and thanks for a great product!
Cheers, Wizz. _________________ /Wizz

This is something we definetely want to add, but sending even just a section of the log file could be too much for e-mail... What kind of info would you like to see in the e-mail? thank you _________________ --

For starters, how about simply the number of completed & failed add / remove actions?
But what I would really like to see, is the conflict files.
Lets say, that it'll only show the last or first 50 conflicting files.
Like you have now in the actual log:
[!] <action timestamp> : ** Conflict - <source path+file> (<source reason>) (<source size>) (<source timestamp>) <-> <target path+file> (<target reason>) (<target size>) (<target timestamp>)
That way, the end user would be able to (most likely) decide on the needed action while reading the email, instead of:
A: Starting up ViceVersa, running a full compare (across office locations, possibly), and resolving the conflicts from there.
B: (Like I do it) Go through the log of VVengine, copying the source and target paths into seperate Explorer windows, and then copy the newest / largest file to the other server.
Basically, I don't want my end users near the VVengine webinterface.
Oh, and thanks for the reply! And thanks for a great product so far. *thumbs-up* _________________ /Wizz

Thanks for your input! We will add the conflicts part and a summary as well to the list of parms passed to the e-mail script. _________________ --

|
|
I have tried the email notification script but have never had it work, not even once. I have pretty much just given up, because I like everything else about the program, but every now and then I think it would be a nice feature. BackupExec does this with no problem at the server level, but I am using VVPro just on a small part of the domain.
Has anyone ever been successful with this script? No one I have talked to has ever been able to make it work. |
