ViceVera Pro Hangs while doing a file crc check on Windows 10.

I have been using ViceVersa Pro for at least 10 years.

Operating system Windows 10 x64 1709 build 16299.246
Anti Virus Windows Defender

ViceVersa Pro versions tried Pro 2.5 x64 build 2519 and ViceVersa Pro 3.0 build 3001

Operation, coping files using a Replication (augment Target) on local Hard Drives, with the following options
Verify copy operation by checking CRC (takes longer)
Retain folder created and modified timestamps when copying

Viceversapro was hanging when doing the CRC check. Version 2.5 would hang and I would have to use the Windows Task Maganger to kill the ViceVersaPro task to get out of the hang.

With ViceVersapro 3.0 the hang could be interrupted by clicking on the cancel button within ViceVersa Pro.

It was hanging on the same file every time.

Wacom driver file: WacomTablet_6.3.22-6.exe

What I found, if I went into the settings in Windows 10 and disabled "Real Time" virus checking no more hangs(Turned off Windows defender).

It is a problem between this file, ViceVersa Pro and Windows defender.

The other thing I tried was installing Kaspersky Internet Security version 2018. No hangs using this virus engine.

Hi, thanks for the report. It sounds like an issue with Windows Defender. To calculate CRC, ViceVersa opens the file (in this case WacomTablet_6.3.22-6.exe). And Windows Defender will do real-time scanning first, before allowing the file to be read. And in this case it is then blocking access to ViceVersa. Now, usually, it should report "Access Denied", to prevent programs from accessing the infected file. Not sure why it hangs.

Did you try scanning the file online with VirusTotal ?

thanks
