ViceVersa provides a good backup for protection from ransomware, provided the copy and the archive can be kept secure on separate system.
The act of encrypting the file will produce a backup of the last good copy.
However every good back need a recovery process.
After an incident the main folder would be encrypted, the copy folder would be partly/completely encrypted and the archive folder would contain multiple copies of date stamped files.
Has any one got a good automatic way to recreate the original folder that will work with 1000's of files in many subfolders.

I think it is also a good option to have a rotating target e.g. to switch target every few days or to have multiple mirrors of the data. Regarding restoring from the archive , how to recognize which files were affected by ransomware automatically? Or you mean just restoring from archive to a specific date?

Ideally any corrupt files would be restored, but this may be very difficult to work what is corrupt automatically so a good approximation would be to restore to the time of the start of the attack. it would need to be the time as well as date.

Re inclusion of the time in 'rotating backups', set the 'Target' of your Backup using Variables (in bold text below), maybe similar to :

<year>-<month>-<day> - <hour>.<min> [hrs-min]

eg : \\?\C:\- Working Files\<year>-<month>-<day> - <hour>.<min> [hrs-min] - Payroll\

So the 'Target' folder would be created as (depending on the actual date and time) :

2017-02-22 - 13.25 [hrs-min] - Payroll

I think it would be good to have a tool that goes through the archoive folder and copy to source / target or to any other folders files based on the timestamp that it is added to the archive. This functionality could be added to the current archive viewer tool that is in ViceVersa.
