We are using ViceVersa Pro 2.5 Build 2514 64-bit.
We have server on-premise and Microsoft Azure cloud servers. Access to cloud server storage acts no difference from our on-premise servers not even much of a latency difference. With that said, I have created a storage resource. I have setup ViceVersa Pro to backup databases to the cloud storage but fails. I have tried using the exact path (e.g. \\server\e$\SQL2005\Data) and, also using a mapped drive to the resource. ViceVersa Pro is running on the Cloud server and has no problem backing up other on-premise data only has a problem with SQL databases. The error I get is “Volume Shadow Copy Creation Failed. Volume not found. Volume Shadow Copies are only supported for Local volumes”. If I try without Volume Shadow Copy Service enabled I get “Cannot open “z:\database.mdf”. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process”.
Can you assist?

Hi, in Windows the Volume Shadow Copies are only supported for local drives, not for drives accessed over the network.

So are you telling me there is no way to use ViceVersa to do SQL backups over the network or there is a different way to do it? If there is another way of doing it please provide details.

Hi, the only way is to have ViceVersa running on the machine where the SQL dbs are. This is valid for all Windows software not only ViceVersa.
