Hi. I have been using VV for years. It's indispensable.

I have a problem. I accidentally deleted a folder from the root of my hard drive; the folder has dozens of sub-folders and thousands of files. VV did a scheduled backup and moved this folder on the target location to the archive. So I do still have the data, thankfully. But all of the files were renamed according to VV's file convention (*DEL_T, etc).

Is there a way to restore these files and folders back to the source drive and, more crucially, restore them to their original names?

Thanks.

Hi , you can use the archive viewer that is in ViceVersa under Tools or you could use our renaming software Bulk Rename Utility to remove the suffix from all the files. thanks

I tried to restore q Quicken file from the archive. I simply copied and renamed (deleting all the suffix info). Quicken will not accept the file as the original.

I can see no difference in the name from the original. Of course there's lots of invisible data in the properties that might have changed. ????

I am not desperate ... today. I'm simply planning for the future, and if something goes wrong, I will NEED to restore from archive. So, has anybody a clue as to the problem?

Tony

Hi, have you restore to the exact same location? Maybe compare the two files using CRC. We use ViceVersa to backup Quicker 2013 ourselves.

I accidentally deleted over 1,00 'Single' files from my Source drive (right click>delete) because I thought I was marking them not to copy from the Source to the Target. They are in the Archive folder and the folder structure looks correct. I would like to restore them all to their original folders on the Source drive and would like to leave a copy in the Archive until I'm sure that I've restored the Source drive correctly. I am not sure how to do this and don't want to make another mistake. The files are very large so I don't want to buy another drive and copy the Archive to it before trying to restore the Source. The information on using the Archive Viewer and restoring files from the Archive doesn't tell me enough -- could you please help with more step-by-step information? Thank you very much. I am using a Windows 7 PC.

Hi, make a copy of the entire archive folder if you can. Just in case. Then use the Archive Viewer tool in ViceVersa to restore files to source and/or target.

I can't figure out how to restore from the archive viewer. I tried the advice to use the archive as a Source and the original as Target and got tons of files besides the ones I wanted and many with long names and different dates. I've searched and searched the documentation, FAQ and Forum since I bought the program and have made a huge mess of my files trying to use it. Is there somewhere that explains how to restore from an Archive please? The documentation that I've found tells me I can do things but not how to do them. What are the steps to "use the Archive Viewer tool in ViceVersa to restore files to source and/or target" please.

Please help! I'm still trying to figure out how to fix this. Can you please elaborate on your 1/23 reply "Then use the Archive Viewer tool in ViceVersa to restore files to source and/or target.". I can't figure out how to use the Archive Viewer to restore files" and can't find an explanation of the steps in your documentation or FAQ. I tried and ended up with lots of files with long names (dates etc appended) and new time stamps). Please explain or give me a link to an explanation. I purchased the software and just can't get it to work properly.

Hi Korinna,

Start ViceVersa and open the profile.
Then from the Tool menu select "Archive Viewer"
In there you can right click on files and copy them. This will remove the timestamp extension.

thanks
