While copying files larger than 1 MB over a VPN tunnel to a target directory on an XP machine with VV Pro installed, I'm seeing 150 + KB/sec transfer rate. When thousands of files all less than 5 KB are copied, I'm only seeing a 2 B/sec rate. (2 B/sec....not a mistype) I can copy the small files using the native windows copy with a realistic speed. Has anyone seen this before?

If you time Windows Explorer vs ViceVersa , is Windows Explorer much faster copying the small files (e.g. 100 of them)? thanks

using windows I copied 568 files at (30,748 bytes) in 10 minutes....size on disk (9,306,112 bytes) next using windows I also copied 21 files at (9,643,780 bytes) in 3 minutes......size on disk (9,879,552 bytes)

I guess if I look at it in terms of sectors it's not so ugly, although there is still a difference based on the number of files copied.

So to work around my problem, if I install VVPro on my source, is it possible to compress prior to copying to the target without altering the files in the source directory?

Yes, if you activate compression for the target in the profile settings, files will be compressed before being copied to the target. The source files will not change.
