Recently my main hdd in my file server went down. Luckily I had been backing up all that data to a different hdd every night using Vice Versa. In my Vice Versa projects I decided to use file compression to save space on my backup hdd. I have all my files on the backup, but they are compressed. Is there anyway I can restore those files to another hdd and uncompress them at the same time? I have about 10,000 folders and about 10 files in each folder. So roughly 100,000 files. I would hate to have to go through each folder manually to extract the files.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

First, create a new ViceVersa project where:

a) The Source is compressed. This is where you stored your compressed files.
b) The Target is uncompressed. This is where you want to restore your files.

Then Run a comparison by clicking "compare".

Once in the ViceVersa comparison window you can run a replicate sync which will copy all files from Source to Target and uncompress them.

Instead, if you want to select specific files or a group of files, select them from the list and right click with the mouse. In the context menu select "copy" or "copy to... ". This command will copy and uncompress only the selected files.

Thanks, worked like a charm. It saved me several hours of manually uncompressing my files.

I'm replicating files from source to target automatically upon source file change using the VVLauncher. I need to have VV pro compress the file on the source prior to replication and then uncompress the file on the target after replication via automatic operation to limit the size of transferred data through our dedicated pipe. How is this performed?

Once the data 'arrive' on the target you need to decompress with software running on the target. It cannot be done from the source. You could setup a job on the target that decompresses data using ViceVersa.

TGRMN, can you confirm that with the option of 'target files compressed' that the source files are compressed BEFORE pushing/sending?

I want to ensure that the bandwidth usage is minimised...

Confirmed, files are compressed before transmitting over the network.
