I'm trying to figure out how I can using VV as a backup solution for my mail server.
I have two requirements for the solution.
1. To replicate messages to a backup disk volume to protect against hardware failure.
2. To keep deleted messages on the backup disk volume for some period after they are purged from the primary volume to allow for recovery in the case of accidental deletion.
To meet my first requirement I can configure VV with a profile that has the execution method set to "Backup."
The part I haven't been able to figure out is how to accomplish the second requirement. I could run a VV job every month for example that would delete items on the target that are a month old or older that were deleted from the source. I thought I could use the Date/Time exclusion filter to exclude all files that are not a month old or older but it doesn't accept relative dates (e.g. one month older than current date). I suppose I could programmatically manipulate the date value directly in the VV profile but I was wondering if there is an easier way. |
